Google Sitemaps

Google、Webインデックス強化の新ツールβ公開(ITmediaより)

Google Sitemaps は、自サイトのURL情報一覧のようなもの(sitemap)をGoogleに送り、Googleの検索結果への反映を強化できるツールです。

サイト運営者がGoogle Sitemaps を使うメリット

Google Sitemapsを使っても、これでランキング計算が変わるわけではなく、検索結果のランキングを操作することはできないそうです。では、何が良くなるかというと、

使い方

Google Sitemapsのページに情報はまとめられています。ここでログイン画面のようなものが出ますが Google Sitemaps自体はログインしなくても使えます。詳しくは、上記ページからたどれるFAQ内の Do I need to sign up for a Google Account? を参照してください。

sitemapはXML形式で、自分で書いても良いですし、sitemap generator というスクリプト(Pythonで書かれている)も配布されているので、それを使っても良いです。普通はスクリプトで生成するのが良いでしょう。

とりあえず、自分がやってみた手順を書いてみます。

Sitemap Generatorのダウンロード

Installing and executing Sitemap Generatorから、Sitemap　Generatorをダウンロードします。

config.xmlの記述

ダウンロードしたファイルを展開して、example_config.xmlを参考にしつつ、自サイト用のconfig.xmlを作ります。sitemap を自動生成するのに指定できる情報源は三つあって、組み合わせて使うこともできます。

コンテンツのあるディレクトリを指定するのが簡単なので、その方法でconfig.xmlを記述すると以下のようになります。

directory で指定したディレクトリにある全部のファイルを探索して sitemap を生成してくれます。ただし、 不要なファイルを除くために filter を使って、ドットで始まるファイル(.htaccessなど)や css などは除外します。

sitemapを生成する

以下のコマンドを実行してsitemapを生成します。 

 python sitemap_gen.py --config=config.xml --testing

最初試すときは必ず--testingを指定したほうが良いです。

config.xmlのstore_intoで指定したパスにsitemapが生成されているはずなので、一応中身を確認します。問題なければ、--testingを指定しないでsitemap_gen.pyを実行すると、Googleに通知されます。

My Sitemaps

Googleのアカウント(Gmailなど)を持っていると、前述したログイン画面からログインして自分のsitemapを管理できるようになります。複数のサイトを登録し、それぞれクローリングのステータスがわかるので便利でしょう。

追記: MovableType用テンプレート

Google Sitemaps with MT(blog.bulknews.net)によると、MovableType用のテンプレートが既にあるということなので早速導入してみました。これで、MTで更新すると自動的にsitemap.xmlが生成されるようになります。Sitemap Generatorは不要です。

まず、MT管理画面のテンプレートの中の「新しいインデックス・テンプレートを作る」のリンクをクリックします。新規テンプレート画面が出るので、適当な名前(例: sitemap)と出力ファイル名(sitemap.xml)を入力し、再構築オプションの「インデックス・テンプレートを再構築するときにこのテンプレートを自動的に再構築する」をチェックします。そして、 Google Sitemaps using Movable Typeのコードを「テンプレートの中身」にコピー＆ペーストして、保存・再構築すればOKです。

これで、MTでエントリーを構築すると、同時にsitemap.xmlも更新されます。Googleにそのsitemap.xmlを通知する必要があるので、Google Sitemaps using Movable Typeにのっている方法か、Google Sitemapsにログインして登録するようにします。
